Frequently Asked Questions

01What is the difference between a carpet and a rug?

A carpet generally describes a textile floor covering that can span an entire room or home. A rug is usually movable, sized for a particular area, and is not permanently attached to the floor.

02What is a hand-tufted carpet?

A design is drawn onto stretched canvas and yarn is inserted with a tufting tool. The rug is then inspected, secured with backing, sheared and carefully finished. Hand-tufted rugs can be created in wool, viscose, bamboo silk and other fibres.

03What is a handloom carpet?

A handloom rug is woven on a manually operated loom by skilled artisans. Depending on its construction, it may be reversible or backed, and can be produced in wool, viscose, bamboo silk and other materials.

04What is a hand-knotted carpet?

Each knot is individually tied by an artisan on a vertical loom. After weaving, the rug is trimmed, washed, sun-dried, stretched and inspected. Knot density, materials and craftsmanship determine its character and quality.

05What is a flat-weave rug?

Flat-weave rugs have no raised pile and are often reversible, lightweight and easy to move. They may be handwoven or machine-made in materials such as wool, cotton, jute and bamboo silk.

06Can I customise the design, colour and size?

Yes. APCO can develop a rug around your preferred design, colour, shape and dimensions. The team can match supplied references, share artwork and colour options, and create a sample before production when required.
